Excitement is building at WUSTL in anticipation of hosting the 2013 Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) in April. CGI U application workshops are Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 12 and 13. Two graduate biology students are seeing their hard work from CGI U 2012 come to life through their initiative called ProSPER.

Studying premature babies prior to their release from the NICU, researchers at the School of Medicine have identified developmental differences between preemies and full-term babies. Their work points to opportunities for therapeutic interventions — even in the first few weeks of life — that might improve long-term outcomes for the preemies.

Highly acclaimed poet Carl Phillips will help relaunch WUSTL’s Modern Literature Reading Series when he reads from the work of the late poet Robert Creeley at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12. The event, sponsored by University Libraries’ Department of Special Collections, also will feature two master of fine arts students reading the work of two 20th-century poets.

Students, faculty and staff from WUSTL, Fontbonne University and Ladue High School danced the night away Nov. 3 during this year’s St. Louis Area Dance Marathon in the Athletic Complex. More than 600 participated in the 12-hour event to celebrate yearlong fundraising efforts yielding $128,569.22. All funds benefit the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals — St. Louis Children’s Hospital and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.
